Assessment of Lead Exposure and Risk Tracking in children

Description

Despite the magnitude of the problem, Brazil lacks representative national studies on blood lead levels in children, currently relying on local and sporadic investigations. In this context, the partnership between the Ministry of Health, Vital Strategies Brazil, and the University of São Paulo represents a strategic opportunity to integrate scientific evidence into decision-making, strengthening the country's institutional response to lead exposure, in alignment with the guidelines of the Unified Health System (SUS) and the National Health Surveillance Policy. This project aims to implement a national survey of lead exposure in preschool children, through biomonitoring and the study of associated risk factors in Brazil, with national representativeness, in order to generate qualified scientific evidence on blood lead levels in children aged 1 to 5 years and 11 months, and the main risk factors associated with exposure. Through interinstitutional partnerships, we are including other biomarkers.
